Our Trainers

Sue Gunson

Sue has been competing in obedience and agility for many years. Her aim when training is to create an enjoyable experience for both dog and owner.

Her first obedience dog was a Collie x Newzealand Huntaway called “Widget “ who took Sue on her journey from pre – beginners to C.

Then along came Sue’s dog of a lifetime, a Staffordshire Bull terrier x Standard Poodle “Strudel”. An enormous character who had Sue thinking and living out side the box with her training right through to C.

Next came a Collie x Bearded Collie “ Nettle” a sweet girl who took Sue to the dizzy heights of Ticket.

Her lovely Standard Poodle x Golden Retriever then came on the scene “Tula” looking very like a Poodle this blonde lady progressed to C before sustaining a leg injury which has kept her out of competition since.

Last but not least is Standard Poodle “Kimi” a joy to own, who is a lock down pup so just starting her career in Novice.

David has been involved with dog sports from a youngster.  Initially  this was in the show ring with a number of breeds which included, Golden Retrievers, Beagles, Flat Coated Retrievers, Minatare Long Haired Dachshunds and Shih Tzu’s.

He has competed at Agility, Heelwork to Music (“HTM”), Rally and Obedience with a Flat Coated Retriever, three Border Collies, a Working Sheepdog and an Australian Shepherd. David has competed at Crufts in the Regional Rally team. With Disney, Working Sheepdog, he achieved Agility Warrant and Obedience Warrant as well competing  at Championship C class at Obedience. With Disney, he also competed in the main arena at Crufts, on more than one occasions, at HTM and Freestyle HTM.

A great believer that training has to be fun for both handler and the dog. Enjoys the challenges that training can bring.

Sue Garner

Soon after getting married in 1978, Sue and husband Peter purchased their first ever dog Jessie, a Working Sheepdog.  Sue took her to training classes run by her breeders, Joy and Eddie Pratt.  This was the best possible start for Sue and Jessie, as not only did they understand the breed but were active Obedience judges and had competed for many years.  So after attending Bournemouth Open Obedience Show in 1980 to scoreboard the Beginner dog class, Sue was hooked.  She started to compete with Jessie in 1981.  Since then she had competed regularly up and including Championship C, so far with six working sheepdogs.  Sue also judges all levels of obedience, including at Crufts in 2013.

Sue has also been an active Kennel Club representative, 20 years for obedience and now for Rally. The Kennel club adopted Rally in 2013 when the first licensed events were held.  Sue competes in and judges Rally.  She has successfully competed to level 6 with her working sheepdog Abby, gaining her Level 6 Excellent award. Sue started instructing in 1986, assisting more experienced trainers at Winchester City DTC, and has since run classes for pet, competition obedience and rally. She is delighted to introduce Rally to Winchester City Dog Training Club members.

Lillian Turner

Lilian has had dogs all her life, the first arriving when she was six weeks old. A few years whilst a student with no dogs, marriage enabling the first German Shepherd into her life.  She walked 6 miles to the nearest German Shepherd Club and 6 miles back and was hooked on Obedience.

Whilst always having at least 2 dogs, children and career took over and Lilian did not return to the dog training world until 1994 when she introduced her new husband to the world of dogs.

Lilian has competed with all her dogs up to B.  Taught all levels, organized shows and carried out most tasks required at shows and Registered Clubs.

The 4 dogs in the picture keep her very busy and are a delight in their varying ways.
